We in the PARISH OF NEWTOWNPARK value and encourage the participation of children and young people in parish liturgies and in activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional and social development. We recognise the dignity and rights of all children and are committed to their protection and support. In keeping with this we will work to do all in our power to create safe environments for children and young people in order to secure their protection and enable their full participation of the life of the Church.

The Diocesan Child Protection Service assists the Archbishop in the implementation of child protection policies and procedures, both in terms of prevention and in response to allegations. This Service advises, guides and supports all who work with children and young people in the diocese. This includes the provision of pastoral outreach and support for victims of child abuse and their families. The Service also provides appropriate services to alleged perpetrators and their families. The Child Protection Service is responsible to the Archbishop of Dublin and reports directly to him through the Director of Child Protection. The Service will work in partnership with priests, parish staff and volunteers and lay people. It liaises closely with the various statutory agencies including the Health Boards, An Garda Siochana and the Probation and Welfare Service. The Child Protection Service also liaises with the Church’s National Office for Child Protection. Training is provided for individuals and groups within parishes, diocesan agencies and other settings.
